The Talent PoolWay back in 2000, there was an internet boom. That subsided and settled into a more sustainable pattern. Except for one thing. Look around you. Everyone's a fricken web designer! Magazines and Newspapers advertise IT courses with the lure of easy money. And yet, we're drowning in crap. The number of good creatives has probably decreased since 2000, many of them disillusioned and pushed out by the tsunami-like dilution of the talent pool that forces pay for creativity down. Their output, once respected, has become a commodity because everyone and their dog has a pirate copy of Photoshop. The same for properly trained copywriters, judging by what passes for 'content'. A few elite tossers give oxygen to the myth that design is thriving, which anyone on a designer's salary will tell you is bullshit. It's time the McWeb Designers got out and left the true professionals to clear up what amounts to a pyramid selling scheme of diminshing returns, only with peoples' livelihoods. |
